7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Lake Forest College presents “Beyond the Music: A Musical Geography of Mexico” with Sones de México Ensemble, Lake Forest College Choirs, and student poet Edwin Sanchez-Rodriguez*
Enjoy a virtual musical trip to Mexico from the comfort of your home with Sones de Mexico Ensemble as your guide. This program was produced by the band during the pandemic funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts for the enjoyment of audiences across the Nation.
With the help of a map and a collection of dozens of authentic musical instruments, Juan Dies, co-founder of the group and his colleagues, will take you on a satisfying musical tour of Mexico’s cultural regions featuring different styles of music, dance, repertoire and techniques rarely seen outside their local regions. They will also speak about what to listen for in these major regional styles.
Admission is free and open to the public.
This program is sponsored in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
