How did you choose your area of study?
Coming to Lake Forest College as a young and naïve 18 year old, I thought that science was divided into different disciplines that were individual and unique to their own topics like chemistry, biology, physics, and psychology. I never realized that they were all so interconnected and tangled together, until I learned about neuroscience. It is one of the most interdisciplinary majors available at our college. It meshes together all of the disciplines in science, as well as the humanities. Neuroscience as a major, has greatly pushed me to grow not only as a student but also as a person. It has taught me a great deal about the world and why people are their unique selves, and why we age into the adults we become. I plan on becoming a future healthcare professional, and my neuroscience major will be a great foundation towards a medical career. It will give me a greater understanding of the biology, chemistry, and psychology of the human brain which is important in truly understanding humans at molecular and behavioral level.
