About Us

Krebs Provost and Dean of the Faculty

Lake Forest College invites applications and nominations for the position of Krebs Provost and Dean of the Faculty. The Provost and Dean is the College’s chief academic officer and provides leadership for its academic endeavors. This appointment will begin on July 1, 2019.

A highly selective residential liberal arts institution founded in 1857, Lake Forest College is located north of Chicago in a historic suburb along Lake Michigan. Our 1,550 undergraduates came from nearly every state and more than 70 other countries.  Domestic students of color and international students comprise more than 39% of our student body.

In recent years – a time of tremendous growth and development – the College has invested more than $150 million in key campus improvements, including a state-of-the-art science facility, library, student center, sports and recreation center, and 230-bed residence hall.  The College has also developed innovative new academic programs that foster both clear grounding in the liberal arts and strong career preparation.

The College’s faculty has a long tradition of teaching excellence and outstanding scholarly research.  Faculty have received impressive financial support from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Sherman Fairchild Foundation, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Education.  Students and faculty regularly use our Center for Chicago Programs to take full advantage of the many resources and opportunities in the metropolitan area; our Learning & Teaching Center helps students and faculty enhance their critical academic and pedagogical skills. A democratic governance system, in place since 1971, assures broad student, faculty, and staff participation. The College hosts chapters of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi.

An earned doctoral or terminal degree, skillful teaching at the college level, and a record of sustained scholarly or creative activity are required. Commitment to the values of the liberal arts and sciences, the preparation of students for lives and careers of success and meaning, and the recruitment of historically underrepresented groups for faculty and staff positions is essential.

Nominations and applications will be accepted until the position is filled. To be assured of full consideration submissions should be received no later than September 7, 2018; please include a cover letter, complete curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation under separate cover. The identity of applicants will be kept strictly confidential. Please submit all documents electronically to DOFsearch@lakeforest.edu.
