Here’s what’s new with our alumni:

1955

Ted Sares was featured in The Conway Daily Sun on March 9, 2018 for being back in trainingTed Sares ’55 for powerlifting events following a 12-week hiatus. According to the article, Sares is looking to compete in June in New Hampshire and Septerm in Vermont—with a Boston strongman contest in between. 

1968

Dr. Walter A. Hill delivered the S.A. Haley Memorial Lecture at the 62nd annual Rural Life Dr. Walter Hill ’68Conference March 9 at Pine Bluff Convention Center. The conference was sponsored by the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences. Hill is professor, vice provost and dean of the College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences; and director of U.S. Department 1890 Research and Cooperative Extension at Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama.

Drone aerial photos taken by Jonathan Atkin will be included in the American Photographic Artists–New York issue launch at The Old Print Shop Gallery in New York City, where the ‘proof sheet’ magazine will be brought to life. There will be five bodies of work displayed in the gallery. Opening night will be on April 19 from 6 to 9 p.m., and the show will run through May 2. Atkin’s photos include the black-and-white aerial of the former Johnson Science Center Library designed by Perkins & Will, now demolished. “My 2015 drone photo is the only aerial view of the iconic roof,” Atkin writes. 

1978

Chrissann urges ’78 and Sally Lapiduss ’77 Chrisann Verges (left) and Sally Lapiduss ’77 and  returned to campus on March 21 in a career event billed as “Foresters in Hollywood.” Beyond tips for building a career as a writer or producer, they talked about about how their Lake Forest education and connections helped them in ways they didn’t imagine as students. 1979

Scott Burgess joined Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) from Acument Partners, it was announced in February. In his new role, Burgess will serve as a managing director in corporate performance. 

1986

Kali Om (formerly known as Cara Jepsen) was in residency at the Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest in March writing a Cara “Kali Om” Jepsen ’86 book of her Yoga Chicago columns, called Beyond the Mat: Don’t Just Do Yoga—Live It, which will be published later this year. Om has been a freelance journalist in Chicago for the past 30 years, and taught yoga there since 1998. She is registered beyond the highest level (E-RYT 500). She has completed 200-, 500-, and 800-hour trainings with her guru, Sri Dharma Mittra, and studied five times in India with Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga master Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. She is also certified in many other areas, including yoga therapeutics. Besides teaching yoga in Chicago, Om leads retreats locally and in Belize, and is a columnist and cartoonist for Yoga Chicago magazine. More at wwwyogikaliom.com.

1993

The Class of 1993 Reunion Committee, made up of Tony Azu-Popow, Jessica Gardner, Jessica Gardner ’93 and Dede Gay Perrson ’93 CarrieAnn Hill, Gabrielle Martinez, Amy Rogers Murphy, Dede Gay Perrson, Scott PozilTim State, is hard at work planning their 25th reunion. Gardner and Perrsons recently met up on campus to scout locations and reminisce about their days as students. They look forward to seeing their classmates and friends in October.

2001

After graduation in 2001, Marnie Henderson Alcock pursued her passion Marnie Henderson Alcock '01 for flying by completing her flight training in Arizona. As a member of Women in Aviation International (WAI), Alcock was one of two recipients of a Boeing 757/767 Type Rating scholarship sponsored by FedEx Express. She successfully completed this training during the fall of 2016 in Memphis and was hired as a Boeing 757 First Officer with FedEx. Marnie accepted a foreign duty assignment with FedEx and resides in Bonn, Germany with her family.

2004

In January, Lake County (IL) Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor sent in this update about newly seated Lake County (IL) Chief Judge Jay Ukena ’69: “It’s notable that Lake Forest College alumni are leading ‘both sides of the building’ with Jay leading the Circuit Court and me leading the county building,” Lawlor wrote.

2005

In January, Tiffany Delahanty Milliken wrote that she and her husband welcomed Xavier James born Christmas Day weighing in at 7 lbs. 6 oz. and measuring 21inches long.

2008

In March, Andrew Myers announced his candidacy for the House of Representatives for the 193rd District in the Pennsylvania Republican primary on May 15. 

2011

Kristina Damisch and Kevin Pyle ’12 were married on August 12, 2017 at Chicago’s Adler Planetarium in a space-themed wedding. Readings during the service included excerpts from Kevin Pyle ’12 Star Wars-themed wedding to Kristina Damisch ’11 “Scientific Romance” by Tim Pratt (read by Nate Sullivan ’10) and “Pale Blue Dot” by Carl Sagan (read by Joe Bozarth ’12). The wedding rings were Star Wars themed, featuring an X-wing fighter for Kristina and a TIE-fighter solar panel-inspired band for Kevin. A beautiful, starry evening with an aurora borealis on the cake was adorned by Star Wars’ R2-D2 and BB-8 in wedding attire. In addition to a traditional “first dance,” there was a non-traditional “first lightsaber battle.” “There were also two optional planetarium shows and open exhibits so people could take breaks from dancing and learn about astronomy and space exploration,” Kristina write. Mr. and Mrs. Damisch now reside in Iowa City, where Kristina is enrolled in medical school at the University of Iowa.
