Letter from the Vice President

A message from Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations and Secretary of the College

Dear Loyalty Circle Members,

The fall semester is already underway and we recently welcomed a new group of students to campus. The Class of 2021 numbers 360 students with an academic profile comparable to last year, which was the best in recent history. The College is stronger today because of your support. ACCESS | The Campaign for Lake Forest College, which was launched last fall, now stands at nearly $100 million in total gift commitments.

The centerpiece of the capital campaign, the Lillard Science Center, is on track to open to students and faculty in January, with the full project scheduled to be completed by next fall. This facility has been further enhanced by recent gifts from the Negaunee Foundation for the incorporation of a greenhouse and a gift from Katherine and Joseph Triolo ’63 to name an outdoor learning laboratory and classroom.

To date, more than $50 million has been raised to support student scholarships, teaching and academic programs, and career preparation. The College recently hired two full-time internship coordinators, which adds to our commitment to build the most beneficial career services center of any liberal arts college.

Alumni support of the College has been growing steadily, with 25% participation this past year. Leading the way are our youngest alumni: better than 55% of the last three graduating classes have made five-year pledges to support the College.

Finally, in these pages I hope you enjoy the Q&A with Dawn Abt-Perkins, PhD, Professor of Education, who was recently appointed as the College’s first Associate Dean of the Faculty for Student Success. Your continued support allows us to invest in the tools students need—academic, emotional, and social—to persist and achieve graduation.

Thank you for continuing to make Lake Forest College one of your top philanthropic priorities. I look forward to seeing you on campus soon.

Philip R. Hood

Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations
