College’s accreditation reaffirmed

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) formally notified Lake Forest College that its accreditation has been reaffirmed, President Stephen Schutt announced on June 28.

“As expected, HLC requested that we submit two follow-up reports: an interim report this fall on how we communicate to students the learning outcomes we expect (due this November), and a later, more detailed report on student learning outcomes and assessment (due in September 2019),” Schutt announced in an email.

The College’s next Reaffirmation of Accreditation is scheduled for 2026-27. Lake Forest College was first granted accreditation in 1913.

HLC accredits approximately 1,000 colleges and universities that have a home base in one of 19 states that stretch from West Virginia to Arizona. HLC is a private, nonprofit regional accrediting agency whose mission is to assure and advance the quality of higher learning. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

The institutions HLC accredits include public, private not-for-profit, and proprietary institutions at degree levels from the associate’s through the doctoral degree level and from small, specialized institutions through large research universities.
