New Roles at the College

Dawn Abt-Perkins has been appointed as Associate Dean of the Faculty for Student Success; Tracy McCabe, Senior Lecturer in English, has been appointed as Director of Writing Programs; and Kate Oakley ’01, has been appointed as the full-time Coordinator of the Writing Center.

Dear Colleagues,

I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Dawn Abt-Perkins as Associate Dean of the Faculty for Student Success. In her new role, Dawn will take primary responsibility for overseeing the College’s academic support services and will provide strategic leadership for the College’s student success initiatives. During the past three years, Dawn has served with distinction as my special assistant for student success, while simultaneously serving as Director of Writing Programs and overseeing the Writing Center. I’m very pleased that our student success initiatives will benefit from Dawn’s continued focus and attention.

I’m also happy to report that Tracy McCabe, Senior Lecturer in English, has been appointed as Director of Writing Programs. In this role, Tracy will provide leadership for the College’s writing programs and oversee the Writing Center.  Tracy is an experienced member of the English Department and has taught a variety of courses in English, College Writing, and gender, sexuality and women’s studies. She has also served on the Writing Committee for many years. In addition, she is an associate of the Institute for Writing and Thinking at Bard College and runs the College’s successful summer Writing and Thinking Workshop for high school students. In her new role, Tracy will continue to teach three courses each year.

Additionally, Kate Oakley, ’01, has been appointed as the full-time Coordinator of the Writing Center. Kate will direct the day-to-day activities of the Writing Center, including taking responsibility for recruiting and training student tutors. Kate is a specialist in English language learning and has done an outstanding job as a professional writing tutor in the Writing Center for the past four years.

Finally, President Schutt has charged a small committee (Dawn Abt-Perkins, Lori Sundberg, Shane Boyd, myself) to complete a review of recent student success initiatives to help inform the search for Rob Flot’s successor next year. The committee has been asked to submit its recommendations to President Schutt by the end of the summer.

Please join me in congratulating Dawn, Tracy, and Kate on their new roles.

Thanks,

Michael
