What a weekend

Athletics scored a weekend full of championship-related competition in softball, tennis, and golf—including a conference coach of the year win.

  • Forester softball won 4-2 and 9-0 at St. Norbert College on Sunday to clinch the ninth Midwest Conference championship in program history and the Foresters’ third title in a row. As the league’s #1 team, Lake Forest College will host the 2016 MWC Tournament this Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, to determine the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
  • On Saturday evening, two players from the Forester men’s tennis team became conference champions. Dan Pivonka ’18 and freshman Trevor Allen ’19 claimed titles at #1 and #2 singles, respectively. On Friday, Forester men’s and women’s tennis teams competed in their respective MWC Team Tournaments. After a long, impressive, hard-fought day, both earned runner-up finishes. The men defeated Monmouth and the women defeated Carroll in the semifinals with each semifinal victory coming down to the final individual meet matches. With triumphs by Dragan Trivanovic ’17 and Christi Valicenti ’16, the Foresters advance to the finals vs. eventual champions Grinnell College. The weekend tournament was the final team competition for captains John Snider ’16, Jordan Stoler ’16, Christi Valicenti ’16, and Grace Dowling ’16, who have combined for more than 400 victories over the last four seasons.
  • Third, and after three days of competition in less than ideal weather conditions, Forester men’s golf team, in just their second year of varsity competition,  placed #2 at the Midwest Conference Championship Tournament on Saturday with two golfers—Davis DeKorte ’18 and Parker Hill ’19—earning All-MWC honors. In addition, Head Coach Brian Bruha ’02 was named MWC Coach of the Year.
