Admitted student open house draws record crowd
The admitted student open house on April 11 drew a record 169 admitted students and their families to campus for a full day of activities.
The admitted students traveled to campus from 25 states and one country—Japan. The majority of admitted students who attended Monday’s open house—51 percent—were from Illinois. Michigan and California came in a distant tie for second place in the state ranking, with 12 students from each. The rest were scattered across the country.
In all, the College received more than 4,000 applications for the 2016–17 academic year. From that record application pool, 2,370 students were admitted.
“Overall, we were incredibly pleased with the success of the program,” Associate Director of Admissions Meredith Wiers said.”There were a record number of attendees and the initial feedback has all been positive. It’s clear that this program sets Lake Forest College apart from other schools that these families visit.”
One of the biggest changes to the program this year was making the campus tour optional, since many families had visited campus already.
“We also added optional tours of specific facilities at the end of the program, which families seemed to enjoy,” Wiers said. Offering games for students and families to play during down time in the morning “kept the energy going.”
Junior Visit Day is Monday, April 25. Click here for details.
