Miguel de Baca discusses new book: Memory Work
Associate Professor Miguel de Baca gave a talk about his new book Memory Work: Anne Truitt and Sculpture to a packed room of students, staff, and faculty in the Donnelley and Lee Library on February 9.
Memory Work approaches the magnificent oeuvre of the pioneering minimalist sculptor Anne Truitt. The book, which is a substantially revised version of his dissertation at Harvard, takes a fresh look at this understudied artist using archival materials, many of them never-before-seen.
De Baca argues that it is the key theme of memory that influenced Truitt’s work from the 1960s forward. Among other places, his research took him to Japan, where Truitt lived and worked from 1964 to 1967. The talk at Lake Forest College covered the analytical aspects of the book, but also the practicalities of working in art publishing, image reproduction, and the writing of a manuscript.
The book is for sale through the University of California Press. Click here for information.
