Spring cleaning

Environmental Studies students raked out the Middle Campus restoration project last week in preparation for the upcoming spring growing season.

The students cleaned up the triangular plot where last year six saplings were set among oat plants sown in the winter to discourage weed growth and to enrich the soil. Last year volunteers planted 400 native prairie specimens, and installed interpretive signage and inspiring poems.

The project to restore the natural ecosystems began in spring 2014.

To receive occasional updates on the progress of the restoration project, contact Jim Cubit and asked to be added to the Prairie Keepers group.
