More than 500 Foresters and community members cheered on nearly 40 Falcons sled hockey players during the 6th annual “The Sleds Are Coming” event.
Students wore white or black to support the Falcons White or Black teams and sat in designated sections in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse to cheer the action on Sunday, January 31.
Fans waved hand-lettered rally signs and clapped inflatable batons to build excitement and inspire the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA) athletes, who zoomed around the ice seated on specially designed sleds.
The players battled it out in three 12-minute periods of 5-on-5 sled hockey. The fans, including College students, local high school students, and members of the community, packed the stands and areas along the boards.
“The energy in the ice rink was unbelievable,” Charlie Quinn ’17 said. “I felt like I was at a Blackhawks game. It was awesome to see my fellow Foresters root for the hockey players with such excitement and enthusiasm.”
The Lake Forest College Department of Athletics hosted the event in conjunction with GLASA, which provides athletic competition for physically disabled individuals.
