Labaschin named Lincoln Laureate
Ben Labaschin ’16 was honored as a 2015 Student Lincoln Laureate by the Lincoln Academy of Illinois at the 41st annual award ceremony in Springfield.
The Lincoln Academy’s Abraham Lincoln Civic Engagement Awards are presented for excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities to seniors from four-year, degree-granting institutions of higher learning across the state. At the Student Laureate Convocation, each student received a Student Laureate Medallion, along with a $1,000 educational grant, and a certificate of achievement.
“Civic engagement, as exemplified by President Lincoln, is crucial to our democracy and the process of our government,” said Governor Bruce Rauner. “The young men and women receiving this recognition today embody the spirit of President Lincoln through their hard work and dedication to their schools and communities.”
Labaschin is an economics and environmental studies double-major. He is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and the National Residence Hall Honorary and serves on multiple college boards, including the Community Review and Conduct Board, the Academic Honesty Judicial Board, the Coalition Against Sexual Misconduct Board, and the Student Academic Advisory Committees for the Environmental Studies Department and the Economics, Business, and Finance Departments.
