Johnson Science Center construction delayed
Construction on the Johnson Science Center expansion project has been delayed until May 2016.
“We still need to raise another $13 million or more to comply with the College’s commitment not to borrow funds for the project, other than short-term construction financing,” Krebs Provost and Dean of the Faculty Michael Orr announced in an email sent October 16.
The College has secured nearly $30 million in gifts and commitments this year toward the total project cost of $43 million.
“To provide more time for fundraising, we have decided, with the full support of the Board of Trustees, to delay the beginning of construction,” Orr said.
Over the next six months, site preparation work—including the demolition of Johnson C—will continue. The bridge connecting Johnson A and B will remain until May 2016.
