Ava Gleason ’20 gains a new world perspective by studying abroad

Ava Gleason ’20 studied at the American College of Greece in Athens through the College’s Global Engagement Office.

“I think waiting as a senior to study abroad made this particularly eye opening for me,” Gleason said. “As I have been experiencing the greatness of Greece—the Mediterranean Sea, plenty of pastries, strong coffee, and the new language—I have realized that traveling to a new place makes you deeply appreciative of what you already have.”

Gleason is just one of many Lake Forest College students studying abroad this semester. Other Foresters are studying in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Germany, Hungary, Northern Ireland, Italy, Scotland, South Korea, and United Arab Emirates.

“This experience had been a lifelong dream of mine. I got to live in a beautiful place far from my home, experience the culture, new delicious food, and had the opportunity to travel around Europe,” she said.
