Modern Languages and Literatures

Poetry translator Katherine Hedeen visited Prof. Kripper’s classes

A specialist in Latin American poetry, Prof. Hedeen has both written extensively on and translated contemporary authors from the region. Her translations include book-length collections by Juan Bañuelos, Juan Calzadilla, Juan Gelman, Fayad Jamís, Hugo Mujica, José Emilio Pacheco, Víctor Rodríguez Núñez, and Ida Vitale, among many others, as well as two anthologies of contemporary Cuban poetry.

She discussed the art of poetical translation with Prof. Kripper’s Spanish 315, 350 and 400 courses in an event hosted by Cleveland Young, co-sponsored by the Center for Chicago Programs, the Latin American Studies Program, and the Modern Languages & Literatures Department.
