SOAN alumnae share their career experience with students
Sociology and anthropology alumnae Sam Corrigall ’14 and Clarissa Jimenez ’18 spoke to students about life after graduation at a recent on-campus networking event.
Jimenez, an admission counsellor at Saint Xavier University in Chicago, engaged the students with stories of her time at Lake Forest and how those experiences benefited her professional endeavors. She accredited her on-campus leadership positions at Lake Forest to the skills she uses today as an admission counsellor. Besides majoring in SOAN, Jimenez minored in social justice at Lake Forest.
Corrigall is a senior project manager at Ipsos, a global market research firm in Chicago. The double-major in SOAN and psychology who also minored in French explained how her education at Lake Forest gave her strong grounding in Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) programming, which she uses in her current job. She also emphasized that the process of learning doesn’t stop after college and encouraged students to pick up new skills in their careers.
“I found this event very helpful,” said Ramona Gyorfi ’19, who is double majoring in SOAN and psychology. “Because I’m interested in research, I especially found it useful to hear about Sam Corrigall’s experiences as a market researcher.”
Because Corrigall has been in the field for several years, she offered students useful advice on how to prepare for interviews, what to pay attention to, and what qualities really matter. “After meeting her, I feel more confident in applying to internships,” Gyorfi said.
