During the program, participants rotated through 15 minute stations featuring basketball, tennis, soccer, volleyball, running, softball, and cheerleading. At each station, current Lake Forest College student-athletes conducted drills, scrimmages, relays, and cheers. In addition, the student-athletes led educational discussions at the end by discussing topics such as the importance of eating healthy, exercising, teamwork, leadership, and time management, to name a few.

The program seeks to promote a healthy lifestyle through athletics and nutrition, while it also gives young women exposure to a variety of sports that they might otherwise never had the opportunity to experience.

The 2019 theme for National Girls and Women in Sports Day was “Lead Her Forward”. This is an appropriate theme as it recognizes the student-athletes, coaches, and administrators who are committed to providing equitable access to sports for all girls and women, while it also recognizes the achievements that women have accomplished since the passing of Title IX.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day was recognized by Congress in 1986 to highlight the positive influence sports have on the lives of women and girls. Lake Forest College is proud to celebrate past, current, and future achievements of girls and women in sports.
