Credit Guide for Psychology

The psychology major at Lake Forest College requires a minimum of 9 courses: three fundamental courses, two courses from Menu A, two courses from Menu B, an elective, and a senior capstone (see details in the drop-down menu below). Students typically find it helpful to take additional coursework in psychology (e.g., extra menu items or electives), as well as internships and research experiences.

General Transfer Guidelines for four-year college and university transfers and community college transfers

Using transfer courses and/or AP scores, students may satisfy a maximum of 3 requirements of the PSYC major at Lake Forest College.  In order to transfer, a course must be completed with a C- or better.

  1. To satisfy the PSYC 110L requirement, you must satisfy either Option 1 or Option 2 below:
    • 1) If you earned a 5 on the AP Psychology exam, then you also must satisfy one of the three options below to earn credit for PSYC 110L.
      • a) Earn a score of 4 or 5 on the AP Statistics exam.
      • b) Complete a college-level course in basic statistics.
      • c) Complete the 0.25 credit PSYC 150 course at Lake Forest College.
    • 2) If you did not earn a 5 on the AP Psychology exam, then you must satisfy both of the requirements below to earn credit for PSYC 110L:
      • a) A college-level intro to psychology course and
      • b) A college-level course in basic statistics (or an AP Stats score of 4 or 5).
  2. To satisfy one of our “menu” requirements, you must transfer:
    • one course with a title similar to the title of one the Lake Forest College menu courses
  3. To satisfy the “elective” requirement, you may transfer:
    • any additional psychology course
