Three things that made me feel at home at Lake Forest College
One of the main reasons I chose to come to Lake Forest College was because the values of the College as well as the way they treated me aligned with my United World College (UWC) experience.
1) The personalized experience
Unlike bigger universities in the US and around the world, Lake Forest College has a close-knit community and personalized experience that made me feel at home as soon as I arrived. The faculty and staff at the college are always keeping up with you and your career, offering support, concern, and resources to the best of their abilities. This is what has made me feel the happiest, like I made the correct choice and like I truly wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
2) Support from faculty and staff
It's so easy to connect with professors and staff. They're always open to talk and answer questions, and a single visit or email will put you on their radar. Once I connected with my teachers, they kept reaching out to me with new opportunities, updates, and offers of support. This made me realize they actually care, and, as an international, student this personal connection and feeling of encouragement and help made my transition so much smoother.
3) Connecting with my UWC community
Lake Forest College not only has a large international student body, but a vast majority of us are also UWC alumni. This provides a sense of community that starts at "First Connection". This is a type of pre orientation the college organizes for diverse students (including internationals). Similar to this, there are many other events throughout the year that have made me feel like I am being thought of, cared for, and supported at the College.
Overall, I have felt most welcome because of the sense of close community across the campus at Lake Forest College.
