Spring Orientation at Lake Forest

New Student Orientation is January 14-15, 2018

Lake Forest College places a high value on welcoming students to the College community. Connecting students with each other and to the College while providing them with the resources they need to transition to campus life is a priority of our orientation program.

There’s a lot going on during New Student Orientation, don’t miss a moment of it!

 

SUNDAY, JANUARY 14

Noon – 12:30 p.m.: Spring 2018 New Student Check-In
Stuart Commons, Calvin Durand Hall
Stop by the Senior 25 Lounge to check-in, pick up Orientation materials and get free Lake Forest College swag!

12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.: President’s Welcome Lunch
Stuart Commons, Calvin Durand Hall
Enjoy a casual lunch hosted by President Stephen D. Schutt. Remarks will also be delivered by Michael Orr, Dean of the Faculty, and Erin Hoffman, Interim Dean of Students, to discuss resources and advice on how to be successful at Lake Forest College.

1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Student Session - Forester 101
Mohr Student Center, Skybox
Meet your Forester Guides and learn about campus life and resources that will help you be successful from your very first day of classes all the way to graduation.

1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Parents Session - Campus Resources: Diversity, Community and Wellness
Stuart Commons, Calvin Durand Hall
A panel of staff from the Office of Intercultural Relations, Health and Wellness Center, Gates Center, Public Safety and Residence Life will share information about important campus resources.

2:30 p.m.: Family Farewell
Stuart Commons, Calvin Durand Hall
Parents, family members, and students are invited to enjoy one last get-together before parting ways.


MONDAY, JANUARY 15

7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m.: Breakfast
Gus and Margie Hart Dining Hall; Stuart Commons
Students who have not gotten their student IDs or do not have a meal plan, please pick up a meal ticket at the Gates Center.

8:30 a.m.– 9 a.m.: New Student Check-In
Stuart Commons; Gates Center
Any student who did not check-in on Sunday can check-in and pick up Orientation materials before heading to the Welcome session.

9 a.m. – 10 a.m.: Welcome
Mohr Student Center, Skybox
Orientation gets underway with a welcome from the Gates Center and Forester Guides.

10 a.m. – Noon: Campus Resources: Student Success Resources, Career Advancement and Library and Information Technology
Stuart Commons; Pierson Rooms
Join staff from the Learning and Teaching Center, the Career Advancement Center, and the Library and Information Technology as they share important campus resources related to your academic and career goals.

Noon – 2 p.m.: Lunch
Location TBD
This is your first excursion at Lake Forest College! We will travel off campus to have lunch and play trivia before resuming the day. Transportation is provided.

2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Faculty Panel
Location TBD
Meet a team of Lake Forest College professors to learn about the College’s curriculum, academic expectations, classroom etiquette and more.

3 p.m. – 4 p.m.: Student Panel
Deerpath Hall, Commuter Student Lounge
Get tips and advice from current students on how to be successful at Lake Forest College. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have.

4 p.m. – Martin Luther King Holiday Program
Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel; Middle Campus
This annual tradition will discuss Dr. King’s legacy of service with the hope that our community will be motivated to serve and make a difference in the lives of those around us.
