Writing In and Around Chicago

The Writing and Thinking Workshop will be on hiatus for Summer 2022. We recommend that you consider applying to the Young Writers Workshop, which, like our program, is affiliated with the Bard College Institute for Writing and Thinking.

Our writing community takes advantage of the wealth of Chicagoland’s cultural and natural resources to inspire you to new creative heights in your writing. Our outings and activities have included:

An imaginative workshop at the world-renowned  Art Institute of Chicago

An outdoor concert and picnic dinner in the heart of downtown at the celebrated Millennium Park, home to unique sculpture and architecture

An energetic performance at the  Improv Olympics Theater, the birthplace of an entire generation of America’s best and brightest comedic entertainers

A dynamic workshop led by visiting poet Kevin Coval, founder of Louder Than a Bomb, the world’s largest youth poetry festival

An inspirational sunrise workshop on the peaceful shore of Lake Michigan
