ABOUT THE COVER ARTWORK

“ARBORIZATION” BY ANA MCCRACKEN ’17

“With oil paint and brushes, I tried to print the pattern of dendritic growth on canvas. The volcanoes in the background are my memory of the volcanoes that witnessed my first joys, my first setbacks, my first jokes –My roots. The place where I formed my first thoughts and ambitions. When I first saw the famous Golgistained neurons on my textbook, I saw an imitation of the trees that watched me grow up. I understood why dendritic growth is nicknamed arborization. I can feel new experiences branching through my brain.”
