Where our science students go after Lake Forest

Our students form close bonds with their professors who help guide them into future careers. In addition, the College’s Career Advancement Center helps connect them with alumni, employers, and many career-building opportunities.

  • 98% of our recent science graduates had jobs or were in graduate school within nine months of graduation.
  • 93% of those graduates completed at least one internship.

Employers can connect with our students for internships, jobs, and mentoring opportunities. Visit to learn how.

Enhancing our green footprint

Outdoor wetland teaching lab

The McClure Rain Garden.

The McClure Rain Garden is an outdoor classroom featuring three varying-depth ponds planted with more than 100 native species. These wetland micro-environments will offer new research possibilities for both students and faculty.

The McClure Rain Garden is made possible through the generosity of James M. Stuart, Marian S. Pillsbury and Alexander D. Stuart.

1,700-square-foot greenhouse

An architectural rendering of the new greenhouse attached to the Lillard Science Center.

The new greenhouse will serve multiple purposes on campus. With the new greenhouse, plants will be grown for:

• Faculty and student research

• Classroom demonstration and lab use

• Landscape restoration on campus

• Starting seedlings for the Lake Forest College Student Garden

Rooftop garden

The rooftop garden offers a new opportunity to grow native plants for classroom use and to conduct in-depth research on species development in an artificial environment.

The Green Roof is made possible through the generosity of Katherine and Joseph J. Triolo ’63.

Faculty and student research

Our size allows us to provide our students with hands-on research experience as soon as their first year as undergraduates with opportunities to work one-on-one with faculty.  And our faculty are conducting research on some of the world’s most critical issues:

  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Tuberculosis
  • Animal Behavior and Addiction
  • Granular Dynamics
  • Acoustic Levitation
  • Sexual Behavior and Mate Choice
  • Human Memory
  • Quantum Optics
  • Cellular Aging
  • And much more!

Their research is often supported with grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, the National Institute of Mental Health, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and that’s just to name a few.
