This course introduces students to the identification, systematics, ecology, and natural history of the fall flora of the Western Great Lakes.

This course introduces students to the identification, systematics, ecology, and natural history of the fall flora of the Western Great Lakes. This course includes extensive field work in the greater Chicago area, eastern Wisconsin, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and southern Illinois. Students learn to identify between 175 and 225 species of trees, shrubs, vines, wildflowers, grasses, and other plants, and learn the characteristics of 15 to 20 plant families.
