Community Partnerships: Waukegan

Our department has a long history of partnerships with Waukegan School District No. 60.

McRAH - Model Collaboration: Rethinking American History

 McRAH was an innovative professional development program that resulted from a $930,000 grant awarded to the Waukegan Public Schools in collaboration with Lake Forest College and the Chicago Historical Society by the U.S. Department of Education from 2001 - 2004. Based at Lake Forest College and the Chicago Historical Society, faculty were drawn from Lake Forest College, Loyola University Chicago, and Northwestern University.

Linking Learning Communities: A New Teacher Leadership Project

Linking Learning Communities (LLC): A New Teacher Leadership Project is a project of the Associated Colleges of Illinois’ Center for Success in High Need Schools.  LLC is a partnership between Lake Forest College and Waukegan, IL District #60 public schools designed to increase and retain the number of high quality teachers in Waukegan schools. Through instructional coaching specifically designed for the Waukegan teaching community, the project supports new teachers working in Waukegan schools and their decision making skills in the areas of resource use, learning environment and activity design, and student assessment. Lake Forest College professors and Waukegan school personnel serve as faculty for the project.

Junior Year Internship Placements

All teacher candidates complete a ten-week half-day fieldwork practicum in either an elementary or middle school classroom in a Waukegan public school. Licensure candidates complete 150 hours of supervised classroom observation and participation. Placements are arranged by the Education Department and supervised by faculty within the Education Department on a biweekly basis. Below is a partial list of schools used for placements:
