Direct Contact with the Humanities
The Krebs Center brings students into direct contact with the humanities. Courses across disciplines use the house and collection as a classroom, examining paintings, sculpture, and objects in person. Lectures, events, and research opportunities extend that engagement beyond course credit, equipping students to think rigorously about art, history, culture, and the present moment.

The Krebs Center as a Living Classroom
Art 105 is a new course designed to give non-art majors a meaningful introduction to visual art—one that might spark a lifelong interest in engaging with images. The course blends lecture with hands-on experience: half of the work takes place in digital image production, and the other half involves physical studio practice.
The Krebs Center offered an ideal setting for in-person engagement with painting and sculpture. We began in the lecture room, viewing slides and discussing how to approach a painting—what to look for, the kinds of questions to ask, and how to fully immerse yourself in a work of art. After the lecture, we moved through the halls together, examining pieces, sharing observations, and applying what we had just learned.
The Center is an extraordinary resource for our students and provided powerful experiential support for the themes and skills explored in the course.
