Humanities
At Lake Forest, humanities majors divide their time between two worlds: our beautiful, residential campus and the world-class cultural center of Chicago. On campus, students thrive in small, discussion-based courses, take advantage of research opportunities and student groups, and work closely with great professors. In Chicago, students take field trips, pursue internships and career opportunities with the help of our Career Advancement Center, and simply enjoy the city’s wealth of offerings in cuisine, theater, art, and culture.

On-Campus Events
The College hosts many events of interest to humanities majors, including film series, invited speakers, artists-in-residence, and the Lake Forest College Literary Festival. In March 2018, as part of the Literary Festival, scholar of medieval literature and bestselling novelist Bruce Holsinger gave a workshop on writing historical fiction and spoke to the campus community regarding his 2014 novel about Geoffrey Chaucer and medieval London, A Burnable Book.
Chicago
Second City? Hardly! In fact, Chicago is second-to-none in the quality of its music, theater, art, and food scenes. Students at Lake Forest College have a rare opportunity: to live and study at an idyllic small liberal arts college, while enjoying easy access to a great city. Many of our faculty choose to live in Chicago—it is, after all, an easy train ride away from downtown Lake Forest.
