Q. A student says they uploaded a video, but I cannot find it via the course Moodle site. How do I troubleshoot?

Q. A student says they uploaded a video, but it is not in the course Panopto folder. How do I troubleshoot?
A. Have the student log into Panopto. Choose Browse, and then My Folders. These are the only folders they are allowed to upload videos into.
Q. Who can see what is uploaded to Panopto?
A. Each video can have a unique set of viewing permissions. Instructors can make videos available for course viewing. Student assignments are viewable only by that student and the instructor. Everyone gets a My Folder. Videos you upload there are private to you. You may share your videos with others.
Q. A student accidentally recorded a video for another student under their login. How do I change the access to the Panopto file to the student who actually did the presentation?
A. Instructors have Creator access to assignment folders. With this type of access, they can rename, edit, and delete student assignments.
Q. One student recorded a group presentation that I would like all members of the group to review. How do I set the recording to be available to a subset of students?
A. To make a video available to the class, copy or move it into the class folder. Use the Share button to allow access to a select group of students.
Q. How do I edit student submitted videos?
A. For basic editing, use the online editing tools in Panopto.
Q. How do I rename a Panopto video?
A. Use a browser (not the app) to log onto Panotpto. Choose Settings under the video. Under the title, choose Edit.
Q. I think I just deleted student videos. Can they be recovered?
A. Panopto will retain deleted videos for 90 days. Contact the ITS Help Desk to have the video restored.
Q. I want to set my phone to record my whole class. How much phone space do I need? How much battery life do I need? How much time can I anticipate the upload to take?
A. The storage required is 4mb/minute (240mb/hour). To record an entire class, plug your device in while you record. An entire class session may take 10-20 minutes to completely upload. If you close the app, the video will continue to upload in the background. Please contact the ITS Help Desk if you are unable to completely upload videos from your mobile device.
Q. Can I transfer Panopto files from my phone to my computer and have my computer be uploading while I’m doing other things? What is the best way to do this?
A. iPhone users can copy the video to their computer using iTunes. Android users can copy the video from storage by mounting the storage as a drive. Contact the Help Desk for assistance.
Q. Can a student continue to edit a Panopto file after they’ve uploaded it?
A. Students can continue to edit their videos in the assignments folder. In Settings, instructors can close the assignment folder. This will prevent students from accessing and adding content to the assignment folder. The instructor will still have access.
Q. I want to create a video lecture for my class using Panopto. What is the best way to put it on Moodle?

Q. I want to create a video lecture to use for multiple classes. What is the best way to save it in Panopto so I can put it on multiple Moodle pages?
