ISEP at CQ University

CQ University is one of Australia’s most comprehensive universities, offering hundreds of programs and courses, across many study areas. CQU prides itself on being one of Australia’s most accessible and inclusive universities, home to a diverse student cohort. With programs designed to enrich the learning journey, CQU provides a uniquely personal experience that will equip students with lifelong skills and a truly unforgettable journey of knowledge and self-discovery.

This program would be suitable for students that are ready to be abroad, but would still like some of the academic services that a U.S. college provides.  It is a good choice for someone that is a world traveler OR has never left their hometown.

Learn more about CQU here! Read the ISEP Country Handbook to learn more about visa requirements, educational system, and culture.

All dates are tentative and may change.  ISEP will alert all accepted students of final dates.

To be eligible to participate in this program, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Good academic and judicial standing during time of application AND time of participation in program
  • Undergraduates must have completed at least two semesters of study at Lake Forest College AND have junior status or higher before participation.

Location

Experience real Australia in Rockhampton, where the outback meets the reef. Positioned on the Tropic of Capricorn, Rockhampton marks the start of the tropical north and is the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. As Australia’s beef capital, “Rocky” has held on to its roots as a true-blue Australian city with a quirky atmosphere and small town appeal. Rockhampton is the perfect location to discover Australia’s native wildlife and scenery with stunning beaches, botanic gardens, and animal habitats all within reach. The sub-tropical climate with summer rains and mild sunny winters, not to mention the large kangaroo population on campus, have made Rockhampton a popular destination with students from all over the world.

Academics

CQUniversity is a comprehensive university offering hundreds of programs and course options spanning many study areas. Our Rockhampton campus is located within close proximity to industry and UNESCO World Heritage landmarks. We are proud to be awarded a five-star rating by QS Stars University Ratings (2015) in the Internationalisation, Inclusiveness, and Online/Distance categories. This is a testament to our commitment and achievement in delivering accessible, quality education that is highly-regarded by industry and professional organizations both domestically and internationally. Our continual investment in online technologies and modern infrastructure provides an ideal learning environment, ensuring the academic success of our students.

Academic Environment and Teaching Style

Please understand that the academic system is quite different. Classes are usually lecture-based, instead of discussion or group work. Classes are often much larger than those found at Lake Forest College. Grades are based heavily, at times almost entirely, on one end-of-term exam, though some courses will also offer a midterm.  Professors are often more formal than those in the United States.

All courses/modules may have prerequisites.  Some departments may have limitations on numbers of courses that can be taken within or outside it.  Be aware of these limitations.

ACADEMIC NOTES
Students may study at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Students must study a full-time load; usually four subjects. Participants are eligible to enroll in any subject offered by CQUniversity, provided it is offered at the Rockhampton campus and the course prerequisites have been met.

Orientation activities and events occur the week prior to classes each term.

ARRIVAL DETAILS
In most cases, the CQUniversity will arrange airport pick up for students. Full arrival details are sent to students after acceptance.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES

CQUniversity offers international students a number of extra-curricular activities and excursions. These include trips to local attractions such as a crocodile farm and Great Keppel Island. In addition, the Rockhampton campus has a number of clubs and societies available for sports, special interests and academics.

Housing and Meals

Students studying at CQUniversity stay on-campus at the Capricorn Residential College.

ISEP Exchange:

Each student is provided a single room with three meals included daily. On site, facilities include common areas, sports fields, and study spaces. The Capricorn Residential College runs a number of activities and excursions each term.

ISEP Direct: You will be provided a single room with a meal stipend.

Financial Information

The program fee for a semester with the ISEP Exchange to CQU includes orientation, on-site director, university fees, housing, and the equivalent of 19/meals per week.

ISEP costs for Exchange are usually the most cost-effective, as it is intended to promote mobility of students around the world.  Direct options are available for those students that prefer to attend a school with limited availability for Exchange, though costs may be different as they are set by the host school. For students that participate in ISEP Direct to CQU, the program fee includes housing and insurance, but no meals.
