Here's the story
At age 13, Jenny Ma immigrated to the United States from Guangdong, China. With few English skills, she entered a first grade language class at John C. Haines Elementary School in Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood. But within weeks, she started picking up the language and advanced quickly, determined to work toward her long held goal to become a teacher.
“What they lack is confidence and self esteem because they are new to this country,” says Jenny, who recently became certified to teach bilingual classes. “I want to give them the hope that they can succeed.”
