Chinese Government Scholarship
The Chinese Government has awarded Lake Forest College two semesters of a Chinese Government Scholarship. This generous scholarship allows the College to send two students for one semester or one student for an entire year of study at an assigned Chinese university.
Please contact Professor Shiwei Chen via email for more information.
Students wishing to apply for this prestigious scholarship must complete and submit all documents for Stage 2 application, available on the College web page.
The committee’s preference is to support two students for one semester each. Therefore, full-year study applicants will be considered only if fewer than two single-semester applications are received.
Students that are doing one term in Beijing and another term through this scholarship are strongly preferred over those students only planning to apply for the scholarship. In addition, students with a GPA of 3.0 or better, plus at least one term of Chinese language, are given preference.
Students must work with Professor Shiwei Chen on the application, of which a great deal is in Mandarin Chinese. The Off-Campus Programs Office will send your application to the Chicago Consulate, once reviewed and approved by Professor Chen.
Students may apply to various host institutions across China. Some may be in urban locations, while others may be in more rural and isolated locations.
Students spend the semester being immersed in the Chinese language. There are no other classes except for Chinese language learning. Students will earn 4 transfer credits for work successfully completed as a Chinese Government Scholar.
The scholarship covers costs for tuition, room, and board. Transportation to and from the site is the responsibility of the student.
