Bob McKeon ’21
How did you find out about the Kemper program?
I heard about the Kemper Scholar Program through someone who was a current Kemper Scholar at the time, Anthony Vikhter ’19. And then, given my interest in business and finance, my first-year studies professor reached out and recommended I apply, so I did.
Why did you want to participate?
The professional development aspect was extremely attractive and I have since benefited from the professional development workshops focusing on presentation skills, interview skills, and improvisation. Also, the opportunity to live in Chicago for a summer post-sophomore year and continue to build my professional network was of significant interest to me. Finally, at the time I was applying to the Kemper Scholar Program, I had no idea what I wanted to do career-wise. Opening myself up to the insurance industry, an industry that is in need of young talent, made sense.
What do you hope to gain from the program?
I have improved my presentation skills, continued to build my professional network, gained valuable office experience, and learned how to live on my own. But, most importantly, I have increased my confidence overall.
Where do you think this experience will take you after graduating from Lake Forest College?
As someone who believes in leaving no stone unturned, I am not yet sure what I will be doing after Lake Forest College. I have explored many different avenues, but am confident that my Kemper Scholar Program experience will give me the skills to lead a successful career.
