Spanish classes experience Chicago theater

Associate Professor of Spanish Gizella Meneses recently took her students to see Mendoza at The Goodman Theatre in downtown Chicago.

Students enrolled in Spanish 336: Crime Fiction, Spanish 260: Spanish for Heritage Speakers, and Spanish 380: Cine, Literatura y Sociedad América Latina attended this production, which was performed in Spanish by the Los Colochos Teatro of Mexico.

This radical reimagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth was part of Destinos, the second Chicago International Latino Theater Festival at the Goodman. This thrilling and fast-paced ensemble production was inspired by the work of iconic Mexican writers interwoven with Mexican history—set against the backdrop of the Mexican Revolution and evocative of the gruesome events that exploded into the world’s consciousness with the 2014 Ayotzinapa massacre.
