Student parking changes this year

Significant changes have been made regarding the allocation of parking spaces for commuter students and eligible residential students who have cars, Director of Public Safety Rick Cohen announced in a campus-wide email on August 28.

In the email, Cohen cautioned all drivers to pay close attention to newly installed parking signs because some areas where student parking was prohibited last year are now open for students, and some areas where students were allowed to park previously will not be permitted this year.

In an effort to assure that students who hold a North Campus or Middle Campus permit have a place to park—particularly Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.—spaces have been reserved on each campus for those permit holders. All remaining “non-reserved” spaces on all three campuses are intended for commuter students with “All Campus” permits, Cohen said.

To accommodate these changes, several spaces that students were previously allowed to use are now reserved for faculty, staff, and guests, and have been identified with newly installed signs.

Designated campus permit enforcement will begin at 7 a.m. on Thursday, August 30.

At that time, student drivers are required to display either a regular parking permit or a Temporary Parking Permit. Temporary permits are required every day for students not entitled to regular permits, and are limited to seven days per semester.

The 2018–19 Campus Parking Policy, which includes detailed information, will be provided when parking permits are issued.
