Finance program establishes new initiatives

The new Finance program at Lake Forest College continues to grow, and has undertaken new initiatives this year to further enhance the opportunities available to students. Professor Stewart Foley summarized five.

First, the program is launching a chapter of the Financial Management Association (FMA) http://www.fma.org/.  Matt McPherson ’17 is heading up this effort.

Second, the program is establishing a relationship with the CFA Society Chicago https://www.cfachicago.org/.  Davis DeKorte ’18 is heading up that effort.  CFA stands for Chartered Financial Analyst https://www.cfainstitute.org/pages/index.aspx and is a very highly regarded professional analyst or portfolio manager.

Third, a new relationship with Envestnet Institute on Campus, headed up by Samantha (Sammy) Wilke ’18, has been established.  This program provides education for students and professionals who want to pursue a career in wealth management.

The curriculum in FIN 340 Risk Management and Insurance has been aligned with the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) requirements.  This designation is very highly regarded in the property and casualty insurance industry.  By completing FIN 340 with a B or better, the student can receive a waiver for up to two of the eight modules necessary to complete the CPCU https://www.theinstitutes.org/guide/designations/chartered-property-casualty-underwriter-cpcu

Last, new courses have been designed for the program:  FIN 465 - Applied Portfolio Management  and FIN 485 - Quantitative Finance.
