Amanda Felkey’s paper on covenant marriages to be published

A paper by Associate Professor of Economics and Business Amanda Felkey that explores the effects of covenant marriages has been accepted for publication in the Eastern Economic Journal.

“Covenant Marriages: Increasing Commitment or Costs?” analyzes how the covenant marriage option affects not only divorces but marriages as well. “States that have adopted this stricter form of marriage have done so to combat growing divorce rates and strengthen the family,” Felkey said. “Interestingly, there is no significant effect on divorces and there may be an unintended side effect of lowering marriage rates.”
