Professor Desmond Odugu Explores Future Research Sites in Africa

Odugu visited seven countries in Africa: South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ghana and Nigeria. Through these first-hand cultural experiences he deepened his familiarity with the unique manifestations of language and social processes in these contexts, and he initiated discussions with local experts in view of future scholarly collaboration. These reconnaissance trips will lay the foundations and basic structures for forthcoming cross-national longitudinal research projects on the intersections of language attitudes, historical literacies, and social responsibility.
