French alumni in the field
Joanne Michaud ’11 reached out to the college in an email to professor Cynthia Hahn with words of encouragement and excitement about her new job as a study abroad advisor at a university in Miami.
Michaud graduated from the College in 2011, and she was a French and Asian Studies double major. Currently living in Miami, she has found a job as a study abroad advisor at a local university. The job is new to her but she has vast experience with studying abroad from her own experiences whilst studying at Lake Forest College.
“It is a lot of work,” she says, “but everyday is a learning experience.” Michaud participated in the Paris Internship Program, and this experience allows her to appreciate her own work even more.
Michaud enjoys sharing the beauty of study abroad with her students and is encouraging more and more students at her university to take up this opportunity. In her email to Professor Hahn, Joanne revealed some of her ongoing projects one of which is setting up a study abroad website. Michaud also plans to pursue a graduate degree around Miami.
Joanne mentioned the continued connections she has with the College. She still engages with the college, and its students by reading Collage magazine online.
“I have been reading the Collage and the works are phenomenal! There are some extremely talented writers in the Collage!”
Michaud also reflected on the time she spent at the College and mentioned some of the values it taught her: “I was able to meet amazing people, and also i learned how to value my mind and the minds of those around me.”
