Pratibha Shrestha ’12 describes how donors have helped on her journey to accomplishing her goals

A recipient of the David deSieyes ’74 Annual Scholarship explains her involvement on campus and how Lake Forest College has become her “home away from home.”  In the future, she hopes to use her knowledge of Economics to help others in developing countries.

I am the recipient of the David deSieyes ’74 Annual Scholarship for this year.  This scholarship will be immensely helpful in following my dreams and ambitions.

I am from Kathmandu, Nepal and chose Lake Forest College primarily because of the tight-knit community here.  I believed I could thrive in a place where I feel like I belong rather than just being a face in a crowd.  Lake Forest College has reached all my expectations in providing me with a holistic experience of amazing professors and friends.  Although I am far away from home, I have rarely felt that I am in a new and alien place.  Lake Forest has been very welcoming and supportive in all of my endeavors.

I am an economics and psychology major, and I’m enjoying all of my classes thoroughly. I have grown to love both disciplines and feel immensely passionate about them.  I’m currently a member of the International Student Organization, International Dance Club, and the Art Club. Other than that, I enjoy doing Zumba and Yoga on campus and love spending time with the wonderful friends I have made here.  If I’m not studying or chatting with my friends, I’m tutoring Economics or working on a research project with my Psychology professor.

In the future I want to be involved in an organization promoting economic development. I want to travel to different developing countries and study policies and strategies towards development and eradicating poverty.
