Lake Forest College News
Rachiny Samek ’12 thanks donors for the opportunity to further her liberal arts education
I am this year’s recipient of the Leslie Adler ’77 Annual Scholarship.
Before applying to colleges, I went to a preparatory boarding school, Milton Academy in Massachusetts. I was looking for a college that paralleled my high school, a small liberal arts school near a major city; however, I am from Michigan, so I wanted to pick a college closer to home. Lake Forest College really matched all of my requirements and, luckily, I was accepted, and now I am in my junior year.
In Rachiny’s words:
I was fortunate to receive this scholarship this year, and I really appreciate the honor.
I am absolutely loving my time here at Lake Forest College – all my experiences, academically and socially, have been amazing. There is a real sense that the professors genuinely care about the students here, and there are so many opportunities to take advantage of that it can get somewhat overwhelming at times! I am currently double-majoring in Philosophy and Politics and minoring in Islamic World Studies. In my free time, I am also a Student Ambassador, both for Admissions and the Career Advancement Center, a Resident Assistant, President of our Art Club, and Vice President of the Fellowship for Alpha Phi Omega.
I hope to take advantage of everything I have learned here and perhaps follow a career path into politics, whether it would be as a government officer or as a member of a non-profit group. I am still in the process of figuring out exactly what I want to do, and I’m glad I still have some time to figure that out!
I was fortunate to receive this scholarship this year, and I really appreciate the honor.
