The author of more than a dozen books of fiction, including most recently the story collection A Collapse of Horses (Coffee House Press, 2016), Brian’s work is notable for its mobility between the genres of literary fiction, science fiction, and horror; his 2009 novel Last Days won the American Library Association’s award for Best Horror Novel. The recipient of three O. Henry Prizes and a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, he was until recently the Royce Professor of Teaching Excellence in Brown University’s Literary Arts Department. He now teaches on the faculty of the School of Critical Studies at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California.
