Lake Forest College Lyrica Concert: Fifth House Ensemble—Dances Through Time

3:00pm CDT March 29, 2015

This program for violin, clarinet, and piano travels through a century of dance and folk music, highlighting these genres as a powerful vehicle for cultural expression. The mysterious and impish dances in Bela Bartok’s Contrasts set the stage for the bittersweet harmonies of Aram Khatchaturian’s Trio, guiding the audience through the rich folk music revered by both composers. Contemporary yet accessible works from living composers bolster this program, sketching an aural timeline for the expressive and colorful medium of folk and dance music through the recent ages.

Founded in 1994, Lake Forest Lyrica is a series of chamber music performed by some of the finest musicians from the Chicago area. Concerts are held in the intimate setting of the Lily Reid Holt Memorial Chapel on the beautiful campus of Lake Forest College at 555 N. Sheridan Road in Lake Forest, Illinois.
