Health Services

Many of the same services your own doctor performs are offered at Health Services.  Your student health fee covers the following services:

  • individual education for self-care and wellness
  • all-campus education (residence hall programs, health fair, brochures, pamphlets, and educational reference information)
  • physical examination for sports, internships, and overseas study
  • treatment of common illness and injuries
  • over the counter medicine for minor illness
  • cold care (with information on self-help)
  • allergy shots
  • TB skin testing
  • weight and nutrition evaluation
  • birth control education and gynecological examinations
  • pregnancy testing
  • STD education and counseling
  • crutches and canes (loan only)
  • referral to local medical specialists and dentists

In addition, the following services are offered at low cost to you:

  • pap smear
  • selected immunizations: Tetanus, Measles/Mumps/Rubella, Hepatitis A&B, Meningitis
  • selected prescription medications
  • laboratory work (mono test, AIDS test, blood work, throat cultures, urine cultures, std testing, etc.)

Lab work can be billed to most insurance policies, unless, as a matter of confidentiality/privacy, the student chooses to pay a reduced cash fee for certain tests.  The amount covered by insurance varies by policy, group, and/or deductible -  Health Services is not responsible for any unpaid balance.  The primary policy holder - usually a student's parent - should know or have access to the insurance's covered services.  Every student must have either an insurance card or a copy.  This is very important in case of emergency, and is needed for ALL lab testing performed through Quest Labs.

Common medications (e.g.  decongestants, antibiotics) are in stock in Health Services, and usually at a much lower cost than most insurance co-pays.  The receipts for medications obtained in Health Services can be paid or billed to the student's tuition account.  Prescriptions can be written for students to take to local pharmacies as needed.  Initiation or refills of psychiatric or controlled medications are not provided in Health Services - students taking these medications must either come with adequate amounts, get refills mailed from home, or have their private physicians order directly with a local pharmacy.

We encourage you to practice preventive health care by getting enough rest, regular exercise, eating a proper diet, not smoking, responsible consumption of alcohol, no illicit drug usage and mature, safe interpersonal relationships.

The medical forms that you return to the College, along with the record of visits, will be kept on file in Health Services for a period of 5 years after you graduate.  All of your visits and medical records are kept strictly confidential, in accordance with federal privacy regulations.
