Course Registration > Step III: Complete the registration form

A registration form was included in the materials mailed to you.  Use this form to register for fall courses. Complete the top of the form with your name, ID#, and intended major, if known. Here is a sample completed registration form.

A full-time load is normally four course credits per semester. Some courses require both a lecture and a laboratory registration. If you select a course with a lab, the lab must also be listed on the registration form, but does not count for additional credit.

Applied music courses have a slightly different credit structure. Please see “Music Ensembles and Lessons” section above for more information.

Your First-Year Studies course is listed as your first course. (If you are registered for First-Year Studies 116-1 or 116-2 please note that you must enter the lecture portion of this course on your registration form. The laboratory and lecture combined equal one course credit.)

If you have been recommended for English 100 (English Composition), this second course is also listed on your registration form. If one has not already been chosen for you, you must choose a section that fits your time schedule during the fall semester and enter it on your form. English 100 is open only to students for whom it has been recommended. Please contact your advisor if you have any questions about this course.

Choose additional courses for a total of four courses (four credits). Write department, course number, and course times in the place noted on the registration form.

Physical Education courses do not count for academic credit. A physical education class (if desired) should be listed on the registration form in addition to four credit courses.

Courses are scheduled on a weekly slot system that is charted on the back page of the Class Schedules booklet. To avoid time conflicts, it may be useful to plot your weekly schedule by slot before completing the registration form. Do not register for courses in the same slot unless the classes do not meet for the full-designated slots (for instance, courses in the F slot may only meet on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, and laboratories usually meet only once a week). The schedule lists the days (R=Thursday), times, rooms and instructors.

Choose three alternate courses to be used if any of your preferred courses are not available. List your alternate courses in order of preference. Remember that courses with the same course number in a given department are separate sections of the same course.

List four courses (including, if recommended, English 100) for your tentative spring schedule on the registration form. You will be given an opportunity to finalize your spring schedule with your advisor during fall orientation.
