Course Registration - First-Year Students
* updated June 30
The most important thing for you to accomplish over the summer is to select and register for classes for the fall 2009 semester and to select tentative courses for spring 2010. The registration information below explains how to register for your classes by mail (preferably) during the summer. Please read it carefully.
The “Step I” section offers guidelines that are designed to help you select your courses. General Education Curriculum (GEC) requirements and the College Catalog can be found here. For specific course descriptions, please visit the specific department and program pages.
During your first year at the College, we encourage you to explore a variety of course offerings, even if you already have a particular major in mind. You do not have to declare a major until the end of your sophomore year, so now is really a good time to experiment. You may discover a whole new area of interest. To assist you in your planning, the College Catalog outlines the requirements for each major. You should discuss your options with your advisor before you select courses.
STEPS TO BE COMPLETED ON OR BEFORE JULY 24, 2009
Step I (more information)
Choose Appropriate Courses
Step II
Discuss your choices by phone or e-mail with your advisor. After reading all of the materials discussed above, consult with your faculty advisor about your course choices (see the letter from your advisor to obtain his/her contact information). Feel free to ask plenty of questions.

Complete Fall Semester Schedule with alternate courses listed

THE BASICS
The normal full-time load is four courses per semester. One of your four courses is your First-Year Studies course. It has already been assigned based on the selections you submitted earlier (see the Registration Form that was mailed to you). Also, see the welcome letter from your First Year Studies instructor, who is also your academic advisor.
If you have been recommended for English Composition (English 100), you are required to register for that course and it is indicated on your Registration Form. You will need to select two additional courses for the fall semester, for a total of four courses.
You should carefully read all the information contained in this document and the materials mailed to you. You should contact your advisor with any questions. Then, complete the Registration Form and send it to your advisor so that he/she receives it no later than July 29. You should also submit a tentative schedule for spring 2010 on the same registration form. However, you will have plenty of time to make changes for the spring semester once you arrive on campus.
NOTE: If you have not been assigned a First-Year Studies course, please contact the Office of Admissions at getconnected@lakeforest.edu.
