New Students > First-Year Studies Program
The First-Year Studies Program (FIYS) at Lake Forest College will be your first connection with the academic community on campus. First-year studies classes are small in size (12-14 students on average) so it’s a great opportunity to meet new friends and to get to know your professor who will also serve as your academic advisor and help you navigate class offerings during your first year. In addition, your FIYS class will provide you with an introduction to the learning opportunities and resources available in nearby Chicago.
Early in the summer you will receive a listing of first-year courses along with a preference form. Although the course offerings for the fall of 2008 are not yet available, there is a link to the listing of courses offered in 2007 on the left.
As you receive the course listings early in the summer, you should complete the preference form as soon as possible so we can connect you promptly with your advisor. Your professor will be in touch with you over the summer and you will meet with your FIYS class as a group during Orientation.
