Endowed funds help to secure the ongoing future of the College by providing perpetual support. A variety of funds help to support the priorities that fulfill the mission of Lake Forest College.
Student Support
Creating a named endowed scholarship is a meaningful way to create a lasting legacy and honor family and friends. As higher education becomes increasingly expensive, endowed scholarships enable the College to offer need- and merit-based scholarships to the best students without tapping annual operating funds. Other ways to support student needs through endowed funds include:
- Study Abroad Opportunity Fund - providing assistance to students with need who are pursuing programs abroad
- Apprentice Scholars - to provide funds for students to conduct one-on-one research with faculty over the summer
- Science in the Summer - allowing science majors to conduct research over the summer
- Student Prizes - recognizing student achievement
Chicago Initiatives
Lake Forest College is in the unique position to tap into the resources of Chicago. Funds that support our Chicago initiatives help provide a unique learning experience.
- Access to Chicago Fund - Class Trips - provides funds for excursions into Chicago, to supplement on-campus teaching.
- Access to Chicago Fund - Special Events - provides for college-sponsored cultural outings to Chicago.
- City Activity Fund - Class Trip - covers admissions fees for class trips.
- City Activity Fund - Special Events - covers admissions fees for college-sponsored cultural outings to Chicago.
Campus support and development
These endowed funds help support the academic infrastructure of the College, such as:
- Smart Classroom Technology - provides for the acquisition and maintenance of classroom technologies.
- Library Resources - helps support the ongoing acquisition and maintenance of the College’s collection.
- Campus Enhancements/Landscaping - maintains and enhances the beauty of our historic campus.
- Journal Acquisitions - provides funds to acquire academic journals.
Faculty support and development
Funds that support faculty and their development help to strengthen the academic quality of the College.
- Academic Program Fund - support an academic department or program.
- Senior Faculty Research Fund - provides research funds for a tenured professor.
- Junior Faculty Research Fund - provides research funds for tenure-track faculty.
- Faculty Travel Fund - covers travel expenses for faculty to travel to conferences and workshops.
