Foresters Fall at North Central to Open 2009 Season
Visitors win at #1 and #3 doubles

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women's tennis team began the 2009 season with a 6-2 loss at North Central College on Wednesday (September 2). It was also the first match of the year for the host Cardinals.

The Foresters began the contest by claiming two of the three doubles matches. Freshman Melika Celebic (Visoko, Bosnia Herzegovina/United World College) and sophomore Nonie Carson (Littleton, Colo./Littleton) defeated North Central's top tandem 8-6. Juniors Lauren Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) and Natalie Atroshenko (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) edged out their opponents 9-8 (7-3) at #3.

Unfortunately for Lake Forest, a pair of three-set singles matches went to the home team and the Foresters were unable to earn another point. Atroshenko led 7-6 (7-4), 3-2 at #6 when darkness made it impossible to finish.

Lake Forest will host Benedictine University tomorrow afternoon at 3:30.
