Foresters Defeat Monmouth to Qualify for MWC Championship Tourney
Team clinches #2 seed in the league's South Division

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women's tennis team defeated Monmouth College 9-0 on Sunday (October 4) and is now 9-4 overall this season. The Foresters also raised their Midwest Conference South Division record to 3-1 and earned a berth in the four-team MWC Championship Tournament on October 16. The Fighting Scots fell to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in league play.

The Foresters swept the three doubles matches. Freshman Melika Celebic (Visoko, Bosnia Herzegovina/United World College) and sophomore Nonie Carson (Littleton, Colo./Littleton) prevailed 8-5 in the closest of the three matches. Senior Molly Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) and junior Natalie Atroshenko (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) did not lose a game at #2 and junior Lauren Stroner (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) teamed with sophomore Sara Bennett (Sioux City, Iowa/Sioux City North) for an 8-2 victory at #3.

Stapleton was the first to finish her singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0 at #3. Stroner followed with the match-clinching fifth team point and a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at #5. Celebic also lost just one game (in the second set) at #1. Carson won the closest match of the entire contest, a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) decision at #2. Sophomore Allison Hamel (Bend, Ore./Bend) blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at #4 and Atroshenko prevailed 6-0, 6-2 at #6.

Lake Forest will host Carroll University at 3:30 on Tuesday (October 6) before closing out the regular season a week later at Robert Morris College.
